All of our prints are designed , hand screen printed and dyed in Clovelly. Designs begin life as a painting and are transformed photographically onto silk screens.

We mix our own dyes and print onto all types of silk and wool.
Each colour requires a separate screen. Each screen is placed onto the silk which has been prepared for print and stretched onto a long print table. Once printed the fabric is dried and then 'fixed' by steaming.

Devore is a 'burn out' method of treating fabric where we print a pattern onto a silk / viscose velvet using a special print paste which is then baked, washed back to white and then dyed.

All of Clovelly Silk products are made up in the U.K and our scarves are hand rolled by local ladies.

The pattern 'Downalong' is a design inspired by the beautiful fishing village of Clovelly, depicting it's cottages and cobbled streets.
The 'Lundy' design takes its inspiration from the rugged cliffs, wild flowers and rolling seas of Lundy Island.

How it all started!

From leaving art school Ann has spent her life working as a textile designer.
She gained a background steeped in classic design and colour when she worked at Liberty of London Prints, where she was head of the design studio.
After 10 years Ann left and moved with her husband Bill and family to Devon where she became a consultant to Tie Rack as well as being commissioned to design for various groups such as English Heritage and The Royal Academy.
Ann & Bill started their own company ‘Ann Jarvis Designs’ in the picturesque Devon fishing village of Clovelly.

At her workshop ‘Clovelly Silk’ they design and hand print luxurious silk, wool, velvet devores and accessories. They also source and sell a selection of complimentary day and evening bags.

In a new venture Ann is producing a range of tapestry designs using the ‘painterly’ style that she has made her own. This new range is to be launched at the NEC February 2004 at The International Craft and Hobby Fair incorporating Stitches 2004. More details coming to this site soon!
